Silicone Resins

Silicone resins provide heat resistance, excellent weatherability, water repellency, and superior dielectric properties
Silicone resins are primarily made up of siloxane units Si-O-Si which in turn provides excellent stability for coatings.  This includes UV and heat resistance.

Resins are available as Methyl silicone resins, Organic resin-modified resins or as Methyl/Phenyl silicone and are mainly composed of a chemical structure called a T-Unit that cures to form a hard coating with a 3D Network. Those with D units form flexible films while those with Q units form higher hardness films.  Features of resins include heat resistance, electrical properties, water resistance, flame retardancy, weatherability, adhesiveness, and mechanical and chemical resistance which are superior to organic resins.

Two cure systems are available for silicone resins, either the Condensation/dehydration type or the Hydrosilyation type which utilizes an addition-reaction system.  Condensations types are usually a one component system while Addition types provide rapid cure and low shrinkage as a result of curing.
