Vinyltrimethoxysilane is a silane coupling agent with a vinyl functional group. It is commonly used in the production of crosslinked polymers, surface treatments, and as a coupling agent to improve adhesion between organic and inorganic materials. It is a colorless, low-viscosity liquid with a sharp odor, capable of hydrolyzing in water to form silanol groups. SC-6110 is used to modify polyethylene and other polymers by grafting its vinyl group to the polymer backbone using a radical initiator, such as peroxide. This provides a polymer with trimethoxysilyl groups that may be used as moisture-activated crosslinking sites via hydrolysis of the alkoxy groups, followed by condensation of the resulting silanols.
