3-MERCAPTOPROPYL TRIMETHOXYSILANE
PROSILANE™ SC-2300
Product Description
3-Mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane is an organosilane compound containing both a mercapto group (-SH) and a trimethoxy group (-SiOCH₃). This structure allows the compound to function as a coupling agent, enhancing the bonding between organic materials and inorganic surfaces such as metals, glass, and ceramics. The mercapto group can form strong covalent bonds with metal surfaces, improving corrosion resistance, while the trimethoxy group reacts with hydroxylated surfaces, facilitating adhesion. It is commonly used in surface modification, adhesives, sealants, and coatings. SC-2300 silane can be used as coupling agent to improve the adhesion of sulfur cured elastomers (polysulfide, polyurethane sealants) to inorganic fillers (such as silica, clay, glass, mica and talc etc.), fiberglass and surfaces. SC-2300 silane can be used to improve the properties of mineral filled elastomers, including modulus, tensile and tear strength, heat buildup, abrasion resistance, resilience, compression set and cure time. The silane can also be used as a pretreatment on minerals or the silane can be added at the time of compounding.
