Tetramethoxysilane (TMOS) is a colorless, highly volatile liquid with a sweet alcohol-like odor. Is a key precursor in the sol-gel process. TMOS hydrolyzes in the presence of water to produce silica (SiO₂) and methanol, making it a versatile chemical in materials science, particularly in the synthesis of silica-based materials.
