Dimethyldiethoxysilane is a clear, colorless liquid that belongs to the alkoxysilane family. It contains two ethoxy groups and two methyl groups attached to a silicon atom. This compound is widely used as a crosslinking agent, coupling agent, and intermediate in the production of silicone resins, coatings, and adhesives. It readily hydrolyzes in water to produce silanol groups, which can further condense to form siloxane bonds.
